A plastic ball that has been on the market since the early 1990s was the original inspiration for the pivot ball. In principle, the concept could only be improved by using a different material, since the slip behavior of the plastic ball was unsatisfactory.

Over the course of further testing, it also became clear that the arrow needed additional lateral control—that is, guidance in the nock bed—to prevent the arrow from twisting and to optimize the transfer of power from the string to the arrow. This is especially important with finger release, where strong torsional forces act on the nock from the string. In string walking (barebow shooting), this effect is even greater, as the different finger positions on the string constantly change the angle of force, which in turn causes the bow to become more or less misaligned.

The new EVERTS Ball Nock – perfect match for the Pivot Ball

The internal shape of the newly developed EVERTS Ball Nock (as of the end of 2023) is the perfect complement to the pivot ball.
It encloses the pivot ball and fits like a tailor-made suit.
New development methods have enabled even greater precision of fit, radially concentrated axial forces, an increased clearance angle, and several other improvements compared to previous versions.

Installing the pivot ball – easier than you think

The pivot ball is installed during the production of a new bowstring.
It is slipped onto the string before finishing the second loop of the string.

(Tip: Twist the end of the string slightly beforehand to make it easier to slide the ball on. Do not use sharp tools, as this could create a burr that would impair smooth slip behavior.)

Now finish the second loop — and you’re done.

Next, position the pivot ball at the desired nocking point height and secure it with the center serving above and below the ball.

Fine adjustment made simple

The nocking point height with the pivot ball is usually about 1–2 mm higher than with conventional setups.
Adjustments on a finished center serving are easy and very precise:
using a small round-nose plier, the ball — and thus the nocking point — can be finely adjusted.
A tutorial video is also available for this procedure.

You can obtain the pivot ball and matching nocks through well-stocked archery dealers.
Several world championship titles have already been won using the pivot ball and ball nock system.
